raw nerves
jangle like church
bells
ring in my ears
my collection of
knives
are those I pulled from my
back
clutching at straws
I've left my blood
at all the stations I've passed
through
on all the doors and walls I scratched
to bits
just trying to get
by
it is hard to forget the
Rapists
even harder to forgive those who
made me a Deathwalker
I still wonder what my crimes
are
I'm told I'm beautiful, intelligent
and unique
that must be it!
it's too easy to say
it's just because I was
born
I thought that poetry & music
& prayer & friends & a good man
would layer the scars that riddle
my flesh
with serenity and
joy
when did I ever ask
for more than love and
life?
maybe a few
butterflies?
fear of the answer
swells in my insides
like some Hitler
all the butterflies
flutter in my stomach
