"Litany of Scars - Notes to a Missing Lover"

Lucifer Visits (Listen to the poem in RealAudio G2)

Lucifer came to my apartment the other day. He seemed a little lonely, just wanted my company I guess. He is, after all, just a man. I fixed us some tea. After we finished talking about the weather and the time of man, I looked him straight in the eye and quietly said, "I could kill you right now, keep you from doing everything you've got to do." I glanced casually at the butcher knife on the counter. He still hadn't touched his tea.

"Why don't you then?" he taunted, or maybe it was supposed to be a challenge. He was so tired, it was difficult to tell.

"I can't. I can't because I love you," I said simply.

"Please, if you love me, you'll kill me."

"I can't," I repeated. "Every time you speak, I smell apples."

He tried to cry. Except Lucifer can't cry.

He left and I had to pour his tea down the drain.
