Scarlet's Poetry Den

"The WomanChild Papers"

Rude Awakening

I woke this morning
to a police business card
propped by my scanner
it strikes me as funny
that police "do business"
then, not so funny
the card has a tiny bloodstain
from my thumbprint

my blood
the word "blood" looks strange
as I write this
I can still taste it
running down
the back of my throat

My horoscope for yesterday said:
"the full moon on April 11
brings a domestic situation
closure, once and for all"

it didn't tell me
it would take the form
of an angry fist
and a telephone cord
wrapped round my neck
while our children watched
