These
Pearls
in the sea
we all breathe
disjointed aspects
of universal communion
I've become a repository
for loose grains of sand
each piece of grit
with its own tale
too tender and delicate
I naturally absorbed
minuscule pieces of sand
which lay beneath the skin
festering, impervious
to regular soap scrubbings
grown now into an under-armour
of impressive strength
if you tore off the skin
the shiny glare would blind
-- rows upon rows
of unnatural beading
bound in robotic perfection
you are not fooled
by the fact that my exterior
appears silky smooth
your hands find
all the proverbial peas
(in my case, pearlescent)
buried under all those layers of
mattresses
they hurt, don't they
.
