"Litany of Scars - Notes to a Missing Lover"

"Opem Palms" by Paul Hutchison of Puniho ArtWatching a Nightmare (Listen to the poem in RealAudio G2)

tensed face
eyes slit-open
gold and brown hair
tumbles in shadows
like cloud turning somersaults

my sister in anguish
trembles at the feet
of some imagined ogre

my sister, my child, my friend
you told you thought I didn't care
how could I tell you
your rest in peace
is worth my life?

my sister, asleep
squirms in a borrowed sleeping bag
on my floor

my sister, alone in sleep
- is this the only time to say I love you?
- the only time to cry to see you in such pain?
