Doll's-Eye View of Armageddon (Listen to the poem in RealAudio G2)

Armageddon thunders round my skull
grey matter writhed into knots
the migraine beat
is some perversion of rock'n'roll

but the doll came from a mismanaged factory
they made her all wrong
she could think

the life of a doll is lonely
she sits looking pretty
until the owner decides to comb her hair
change the dress
or be a tea party guest
the doll's lot is amateur mothering
she sits like a beautiful package
until the ribbons rot
an eye stops working
hair frizzes
and the owner is bored
ends up at a charity bazaar
where I find her
a voodoo doll of myself

I stopped collecting dolls long ago
