I'd Smile if I Could

for a special time
we danced with the gods
a world apart

now, I am left alone
in our secret place
it does not matter
if you are still here too
I cannot touch you anymore

if I could find the words
that would bring you to me
I would say them
where you couldn't hear me
for all the joy we share
there is a bittersweet pain
in the love we feel - still

the thing I feel most
is a sickening ache
in the void that is left behind
where you touched me
so very deeply

no matter which way I turn
I will be making a mistake
there are no solutions here

I have been set adrift again
but I will not let the poetry die
