Scarlet's Poetry
Den
"The WomanChild Papers" |
In the
Mist
in the mist
wrapped in layers of gauzy
swirly stuff
pain-numbing
soul-deadening
thought-fogging
the highway flies by
under the wheels
of the van
windshield wipers swipe
furiously for milliseconds
of occasional clarity
in this weather
the sun sets, gathering
darkness now obscures more
adds to the heavy
oppressive weight
a fight to stay awake
I hope the van
knows where it's going
I sure don't
I was going somewhere
then a dream popped
balloon attacked by pin
loud burst
momentary deafness
I start to achieve
total sensory deprivation
which might be a good thing
if I wasn't driving
a little trip to nowhere
I didn't plan on taking
a step in the journey
goes retrograde
offends my sense
of progressive order
I console myself
with the thought
that if we were meant
to go in straight lines
the earth wouldn't spin
in circles
this explains
the perpetual dizziness
just caught off-balance
again
