your soul crept
up on my insides
a thirsty wanderer
in search of oasis

tongue whispered words
like sandpaper
slapped ears
clichés in assault

for a moment
I thought ye of the damned

until I saw unformed tears
in the corners of your eyes

bring lonely lovers
to one another
