Prologue
(Listen
to the poem in RealAudio G2)
imperious as ever
I sit atop my
dictionaries
praying they won't blow my brain
to bits
before I have my say in
Armageddon
a caricature of Joan of
Arc
I will dance midst the
battle
with my top hat and
cane
write the Book of
Scarlet
tack it onto the end of
Revelations
almost a love poem
almost a story
a lot of things
perhaps a temper
tantrum
it is whatever heart I have left
breaking
the pen is bleeding all over the
page
but, even after the
joker
the poet always has the last
laugh
