Time for
Healing
you made me find the little girl
I didn't know I was hiding
the one shivering in that cold, locked
place
where I put her when I was five,
because the rest of me
had to grow up far too fast, not
allowed childish things
after all these years, she reminded
me she was still there
because she knew it would be okay
to come out
to play with you, you can push her
on the swings at night
toss her in the air by day, tell
funny stories
feed her jelly drops, and she'll
ask you why
I'm afraid you'll have to tell her
because I can still only cry
when I think how she came to be
I don't want her to see what I've
become yet
I imagine you and her in a quiet
place by a river
you hold her hand and point out the
stars at night
during the day, you'll walk in fields
of flowers
(she still can - I became allergic
way after that)
she asks you all the questions
to which she's been wanting answers
for so very long now
I'm still ashamed to look her in
the eye, so you will
have to be both our friends for now
introduce us very slowly - she's
got over
thirty years of catching up to do
since the time my innocence
was so irrevocably
lost
